John Baugher M.S. ’06

John Baugher M.S. ’06 taught for 15 years and during the last 7 years of his teaching career, he began his master’s degree program in Educational Administration at McDaniel College. Thanks to the flexibility of the program, he earned his degree while meeting the demands of a high school teacher. Now principal of Westminster High School, his M.S. allows him to find new ways to make a difference.

“When you’re a kid in high school, you don’t necessarily think of your teachers as human,” says John Baugher M.S. ’06. But he’s trying to change that as principal of Westminster High School. He taught for 15 years and during the last 7 years of his teaching career, he began his master’s degree program in Educational Administration at McDaniel College.

With days starting at 5:45 a.m. and being on-call 24/7, as a teacher, coach and advisor, Baugher is thankful that McDaniel had the flexibility he needed and worked with him to extend his master’s program when he needed it.

“The most rewarding part … is when you’re talking to a kid and you see the kid’s eyes light up,” Baugher says. “That’s why educators do it.”
