What led you to pursue a degree in Human Services Management?

I chose Human Services Management because I’ve always been passionate about helping others and creating positive change in communities. Over time, I realized that I wanted to do more than provide direct services — I wanted to be part of the decision-making, program development, and leadership that shapes how services are delivered. Human Services Management combines my compassion for people with my interest in organizational strategy and leadership, giving me the tools to make a broader, systemic impact.

Why McDaniel?

I chose McDaniel because of its strong emphasis on practical experience, small class sizes, and a curriculum that blends theory with real-world application. The faculty’s background in both academic research and professional practice in the human services field stood out to me. I also valued the college’s commitment to community engagement and its supportive learning environment, which has allowed me to grow both professionally and personally.

What were your program highlights?

What I appreciated most about the program was its focus on leadership development and ethical decision-making in human services. The coursework challenged me to think critically about the role of managers in shaping inclusive and effective service delivery. I also enjoyed the collaborative learning environment, where I could exchange ideas with peers from diverse professional backgrounds.

One of the most impactful parts of the program was the opportunity for direct care experience. Working closely with residents gave me valuable insight into the real challenges and needs they face. While it was difficult at times — emotionally and mentally — I genuinely enjoyed getting to know the residents and learning their stories. That hands-on experience deepened my understanding of why human services work matters and reinforced my commitment to making a difference.

What are your career goals?

My long-term career goal is to become a program director or executive in a nonprofit or public agency that focuses on social services, mental health, or youth development. I want to lead initiatives that improve access to services, promote equity, and create sustainable solutions for underserved populations. Eventually, I’d like to mentor emerging professionals in the field and contribute to policy development that advances the mission of human services.

Looking ahead, I plan to pursue a Master of Social Work (MSW) and work toward becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). My experience in Human Services Management has given me a strong foundation in leadership, organizational systems, and service delivery — but I also have a deep desire to work more closely with individuals and families through clinical practice.
