As a graduate student in the HSM program, you’ll complete coursework while experiencing a live-in internship at Target Community & Educational Services, Inc., a local nonprofit agency affiliated with McDaniel. As a Target Scholar, you’ll receive:

Admissions Requirements

Candidates required to submit:

  • Completed application for graduate study. https://admission.mcdaniel.edu/apply/
  • Official transcript verifying completion of an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.00. (Students with a GPS between 2.75 and 2.99 will be admitted provisionally which requires a student to maintain a 3.0 GPA in the first 9 to 12 credit hours. Students with less than a 2.75 GPA can be considered for provisional admission on a case-by-case basis but may be required to provide additional documents or participate in an interview. Admission may also require additional conditions.)
  • A professional resume highlighting related work experience.

 

Candidates who wish to be considered for the Target Scholar opportunity should also:

  • 30 semester hours
  • In concurrence with course work, complete an internship as a Community Living Manager for Target Community & Educational Services

At Target Community & Educational Services, Inc. you’ll work as Community Living Managers, serving individuals with developmental disabilities. This allows you to gain critical experience while earning your degree, positioning you for success well beyond your program.

Graduates of the Human Service Management Master’s degree program:

  • Find management positions with various nonprofit and for-profit agencies serving people with disabilities.
  • Work in government agencies at the federal, state, city, and county levels with a focus on general education and special education services.

McDaniel's HSM program partners with Target Community & Educational Services, Inc, a local human services agency which provides support services to individuals with developmental disabilities.  This partnership provides an opportunity for our students to gain the knowledge and skills to become a manager in the human services industry while getting on the job experience through a paid internship.  The Target Scholars program offers 100% tuition scholarship, paid internship ($45,000 annually), health and dental benefits and housing.
