McDaniel scored a doubleheader sweep of Dickinson April 23 in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action while Billy Emerson and Luis Miramontes won field events at the Mason-Dixon Invitational in men’s outdoor track and field action.
In the double-header with Dickinson, the Green Terror (21-12-1, 12-1-1) took the opener 3-1 in the eighth inning before completing the sweep with a 3-0 victory. With the two wins, McDaniel can assure itself the top seed in the conference tournament with two wins at Haverford next Saturday. The Green Terror has clinched at least the need to replay the Gettysburg tie for hosting rights, pending the outcomes of the April 29-30 finals.
Olivia Kipe of Manchester, Md., led McDaniel with two hits on the day, including a walkoff home run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning of game one. Jamie Weisser of Chappaqua, N.Y., and Fiona Johnson of Derwood, Md., did their work in the circle, combining for 11 strikeouts and allowing just six hits.
In men's outdoor track and field action, Billy Emerson of Germantown, Md., won both the shot put and discus and Luis Miramontes of San Jose, Calif., won the hammer to lead McDaniel at the Mason-Dixon Invitational hosted by Gettysburg.
The Green Terror finished fourth with 86 points. Messiah won the 14-team invitational with 190.5 points. Billy Emerson won the shot put with a mark of 14.06 meters and the discus with a mark of 44.46 meters while Luis Miramontes won the hammer with a mark of 36.52 meters.
