Video: Senior Capstones December 2016

Seniors Najee Banks, Arielle Jochum and Matthew Welte talk about their senior capstones
December 06, 2016

Three seniors talk about their capstone projects – the crowning feature of McDaniel’s curriculum, an in-depth investigation of a topic in the student’s major or a field placement.

Across all disciplines, students top off their educations with this original work in their fields – and use this experience as a passport to both career and graduate school. Through capstones, students often begin to express themselves as professionals.

Here are three videos of students with majors in Mathematics, Music and Theatre Arts talking about their capstone projects.

- Matthew Welte, a Mathematics major from Berlin, N.J., examines how musical objects such as notes and chords can be translated into mathematical structure so that mathematical operations can be applied; effectively changing them from one note or chord to another.

- Music major Arielle Jochum of Westminster, Md., talks about her senior capstone recital — her cello and vocal performances that combine her love for classical music and jazz as the culmination of her Music training at McDaniel.

- Theatre Arts major Najee Banks of Westminster, Md., talks about his senior capstone — his role in the musical “Hair” as the pinnacle of his theatre experience at McDaniel.
