Baltimore City high school seniors surprised with full-tuition scholarships to McDaniel

Five Baltimore City high school seniors from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Benjamin Franklin High School at Masonville Cove, Green Street Academy, and REACH! Partnership School are recipients of full-tuition scholarships to attend McDaniel College as part of the Class of 2030. Each scholarship covers full tuition for all four years at McDaniel, valued at approximately $200,000 each.

Poly Surprise 2026

Izabela Gonzalez and Alannah O’Mara-York from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute were surprised by McDaniel College representatives with full-tuition scholarships to McDaniel.

Representatives from McDaniel College, including the Green Terror, Baltimore City Public Schools, and the CollegeBound Foundation traveled March 24 to Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Benjamin Franklin High School at Masonville Cove, and Green Street Academy to surprise four Baltimore City high school seniors with full-tuition scholarships to attend McDaniel College as part of the incoming Class of 2030. A fifth student from REACH! Partnership School was surprised on March 18.

The full-tuition scholarships cover all four years at McDaniel and are each valued at approximately $200,000.

Since 2008, McDaniel College has partnered with the CollegeBound Foundation to provide full-tuition scholarships to Baltimore City high school students. McDaniel’s Admissions Office annually interviews students from CollegeBound Foundation-staffed Baltimore City public high schools for the scholarship.

Izabela Gonzalez Baltimore Polytechnic Institute

Izabela Gonzalez has excelled academically as part of Poly’s Honors STEM program. She is deeply involved in her church and volunteer work. She also has a passion for photography. Known for always being willing to help others, she is a caretaker for her two younger siblings. Gonzalez plans to pursue a major in Biology and a minor in American Sign Language (ASL) in preparation for a career in medicine.

Alannah O’Mara-York Baltimore Polytechnic Institute

Alannah O’Mara-York is a member of Poly’s Project Lead the Way Engineering program, where she is a quiet leader in the classroom. Throughout high school, she has worked in the food service industry and as a babysitter. When not at school or work, she helps take care of her younger sibling. O’Mara-York is interested in exploring a career path in the fields of Psychology and Health Sciences

 

Benjamin Franklin Tania 2026

Tania Worsley Benjamin Franklin High School at Masonville Cove

Tania Worsley is a three-sport athlete at Benjamin Franklin and serves as a co-captain. During her junior year, she was named “Female Athlete of the Year” at her school. She participates in Building STEPS (Science, Technology and Education Partnerships) and is active in the Student Government Association. Her goal is to major in Biology and become a veterinarian.

Green Terror Dale

Dale McLaughlin Green Street Academy

Dale McLaughlin is valedictorian at Green Street Academy and active in clubs like Dungeons and Dragons. They are also an author of thriller fiction. Outside of school, McLaughlin works part-time as an assistant baker and is passionate about spotlighting the issue of food deserts in Baltimore City. They intend to major in Accounting and minor in American Sign Language (ASL) with plans to pursue an MBA.  

Harmony Gross at REACH!

Harmony Gross REACH! Partnership School

Harmony Gross is a leader at Reach!, serving as captain of the school’s volleyball team and as class president during both her junior and senior years. As a sophomore, she was selected to attend the National Student Leadership Summit (NSLS) hosted by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). She also serves on the student athlete leadership council through Project Rampart, an initiative by Under Armour. After completing multiple Bloomberg Arts internships, she started her own tattoo business. Gross wants to major in Kinesiology and become a physical therapist.
