Members of the McDaniel College campus community ushered in the holiday season on Wednesday, Nov. 29, during “Out of Darkness: A Celebration of Light,” a new campus tradition established by McDaniel College's 10th President Julia Jasken that combined beloved college traditions with new experiences.

"I hope that this event will become a tradition and hold special significance for our students, faculty and staff for many years to come," said President Jasken.

The event, which honored the college’s motto “E Tenebris in Lucem Voco” or “I call you out of darkness into light,” was filled with light from luminarias and holiday lights spread throughout campus, plus various educational and fun activities.

Highlights included photos with the Green Terror who was decked out for the holiday season; musical performances by the Green TerrorTones and the college's Gospel Choir; ice sculpture and sparkler area; hot chocolate, s’mores, and cookies and milk stations; and train rides on our very own Western Maryland Railway.

Many cultural student organizations also participated in a Religious and Cultural Festival sponsored by the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in McTeer-Zepp Plaza and the Green Terror Army ROTC Battalion collected holiday cards for the military.

Additionally, an indoor snowball fight, wreath-making, make-a-gift activity sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement, and snowflake cookie decorating sponsored by McDaniel Culinary Services took place in Baker Memorial Chapel.
