The Princeton Review's "The Best 386 Colleges"

McDaniel is among only about 14 percent of America’s 2,800 four-year colleges profiled in "The Best 386 Colleges."

The Princeton Review college rankings are based on surveys completed by college students, who rate their schools on dozens of topics and report on their campus experiences.

“Because we’re a small school, I think there is a unique sense of community,” one student said about McDaniel in the survey. “People I barely know will stop to ask how I am or wave at me from across the quad just because we’ve had a class together.”

Classes at McDaniel center on critical thinking and creativity, in which a student shared how “my entrepreneurship professor allows us to make the core of our grade trying to create a small business from scratch” or another student enjoyed taking a Viking literature class with “a ‘Viking Feast’ day.”

Additionally, McDaniel appears on The Princeton Review’s “Best Northeastern” colleges list and “Best Value” colleges list. McDaniel is among the nation’s four-year colleges identified as best in four regions – Northeast, Southeast, Midwest and West – that are considered academically outstanding. McDaniel was recognized as a “Best Value College” by The Princeton Review for offering the best return on investment (ROI). The list stems from “institutional and student survey data, including academic rigor, affordability, and career outcomes for graduates, among others,” according to The Princeton Review, an education services company known for its tutoring, test-prep courses, books, and other student resources.

In its profile on McDaniel, The Princeton Review notes that “McDaniel prides itself on taking the time to get to know applicants, so each student has their own admissions counselor who can help plan a campus visit and ensure applications are complete.”

"We recommend every one of the 386 colleges in the new edition of our book as a ‘best’ choice, and we salute them for their exceptional offerings, especially during this extremely challenging academic year,” said Robert Franek, The Princeton Review’s editor-in-chief.
