Rutgers University–New Brunswick Professor Derrick Darby delivers the annual Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Lecture on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Titled "Hip Hop, Philosophy, and the (Broken) Social Contract,” Darby draws inspiration from legendary hip-hop icons Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, Kendrick Lamar, and others. The event takes place at 7:30 p.m. in McDaniel Hall's Coley Rice Lounge and is free and open to the public.
Six students who participated in McDaniel's Student-Faculty Collaborative Summer Research Program presented at MathFest, the annual summer meeting of the Mathematical Association of America. Ellie Riggs, an Applied Mathematics major, Sophia Braun, a Mathematics and Computer Science major, and Wera Schroeder, a Mathematics and Biology major, earned notable poster awards for their research presentations.
Alumni couple Bryson and Carol Popham, both members of the Class of 1973, have created the Mildred R. Popham and Carol L. Popham ’73 Scholarship for Teaching and Human Services for eligible Glen Burnie High School graduates who attend McDaniel. Beginning with the 2027-28 academic year, scholarship funds will be available to up to four eligible Glen Burnie High School graduates each year.
