Eligibility and Awarding

The Green Terror Marching Band Scholarship provides eligible undergraduate students with a $1,500 annual scholarship ($750 per semester) for participation in the Green Terror Marching Band.

The scholarship is renewable for up to four years of undergraduate enrollment, provided the student continues to meet all eligibility and participation requirements.

Initial Eligibility

To be eligible for the Green Terror Marching Band Scholarship, a student must:

  • Be admitted to or currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at McDaniel College.
  • Complete the Green Terror Marching Band Scholarship application
  • Demonstrate previous music or performance experience appropriate for participation in the Green Terror Marching Band. Qualifying experience may include high school marching, concert or jazz band; color guard; private or school-based music instruction; vocal performance; guitar, bass or other contemporary music experience; or comparable experience approved by the Green Terror Marching Band Director.
  • Submit a recommendation from a band director, music teacher, private instructor, ensemble director, color guard instructor, or other qualified individual who can verify the student's previous experience and readiness to participate.
  • Be approved for participation by the Green Terror Marching Band Director.
  • Enroll in the designated Athletic Band course in both the fall and spring semesters. Registration for new students will occur at McDaniel Local.

For current McDaniel students, the recommendation requirement may be satisfied by the Green Terror Marching Band Director based on documented participation in a McDaniel music ensemble, music lessons, or other relevant performance experience.

Application Deadline

The priority application deadline is December 15 for students entering McDaniel the following fall.

Applications received after December 15 may be considered on a space- and funds-available basis.

Continued Eligibility

The Green Terror Marching Band Scholarship is a participation-based award. To receive and renew the scholarship, students must:

  • Enroll in the designated Athletic Band course each semester;
  • Remain an active member of the Green Terror Marching Band and pep band;
  • Meet rehearsal, performance, band camp, and other participation requirements established in the course syllabus and band policies;
  • Remain in good standing with the Green Terror Marching Band and pep band; and
  • Successfully complete the Athletic Band course each semester.

Students do not need to submit a new scholarship application or recommendation each year. Renewal is based on continued eligibility and participation.

Loss of Scholarship

A student who withdraws from the Athletic Band course, ceases participation in the Green Terror Marching Band or pep band, does not satisfy required attendance or performance obligations, or does not successfully complete the course may lose the scholarship.

Loss of eligibility may result in cancellation or adjustment of the scholarship for the affected semester and may make the student ineligible for renewal in subsequent semesters.

Exceptions for documented circumstances such as significant illness, injury, or other extraordinary situations may be considered in consultation with the Green Terror Marching Band Director and the Financial Aid Office.

Financial Aid

The Green Terror Marching Band Scholarship is considered institutional financial aid and becomes part of the student's overall financial aid package. The award is subject to all applicable federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and may be adjusted if a student's total financial assistance exceeds applicable limits.

Receipt of the Green Terror Marching Band Scholarship does not guarantee that the student's total financial aid will increase by the full amount of the award. Changes to enrollment status, other financial assistance, or eligibility for need-based aid may affect your overall financial aid package.

Scholarship eligibility, award amounts, and terms are subject to annual review by McDaniel College.
