Types of Financial Aid

There are two categories of financial aid for college: Gift Aid and Self Help Aid.
Gift Aid refers to funds given as a gift or scholarship that does not need to be paid back. This includes grants, scholarships, and other awards that are awarded based on merit or financial need. To apply for Gift Aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Self Help Aid consists of student loans and work study programs in which the student earns money through part-time employment.
