Educators, Military Personnel, First Responders, Health Professionals, and Government Employees Learn about McDaniel's Unique Legacy Program

Up to $132,000 to pay for college

McDaniel proudly recognizes the contributions of educators, military personnel, first responders, health professionals, and government employees. By recognizing these categories of service, we are dedicated to providing alternative ways to make McDaniel accessible for a wide variety of families.

*Admitted residential students receive $33,000 annually for four years. Students who wish to commute are awarded $22,000 annually, worth $88,000 over four years.

Legacy Scholarship Eligibility:

Each scholarship has its own eligibility requirements. You may be eligible if 

  • You are a current high school seniors or undergraduate transfer student entering McDaniel College for the first time and have not yet attained a bachelor’s degree; AND
  • You meet the criteria of one of the Legacy Scholarships listed below.
  • Legacy Scholarship eligibility is subject to employment verification.

All first-year students and transfer students who are not eligible for a Legacy Scholarship or Green Terror Impact Scholarship are considered for McDaniel Merit Scholarships ranging from $7,500 to $33,000 annually.

Educator Legacy Scholarship Recognizing the importance of excellence in teaching

To honor and recognize the importance of excellent teaching, McDaniel College offers the Educator Legacy to the children of K-12 and community college educators who have at least four years of current employment in a school setting and are eligible for full-time benefits at their institutions.

You may be eligible if:

  • Your parent/guardian is a K-12 or community college educator OR a Pre-K educator working in a center-based daycare
  • Parents/guardians must have at least four years of current employment in a school/center setting and be eligible for full-time employment benefits.

Military and First Responder Legacy Scholarship Honoring service to community and country

McDaniel honors service to community and country. Veterans, active-duty military personnel, and first responders — along with their children — are eligible for a Legacy Scholarship valued at up to $132,000 ($33,000 annually for residential students; $22,000 for commuters). This recognition helps make McDaniel accessible to families who serve.

You may be eligible if:

  • You or your parent/guardian is a military veteran or active duty military personnel (including the National Guard and the reserves).
  • Your parent/guardian is a full-time, benefits-eligible first responder with at least four consecutive years of current employment as a law enforcement officer, career firefighter, or licensed EMT/paramedic, or 911 dispatcher.
  • This includes children of military service members and first responders who died in the line of duty, regardless of years of service.

Health Professional Legacy Scholarship Recognizing those who care for the health of our communities

To recognize those who care for the health of our communities, McDaniel offers a Legacy Scholarship for children of full-time health professionals working in hospitals, health systems, clinics, and public health agencies. Eligible students may receive up to $132,000 ($33,000 annually for residential students; $22,000 for commuters).

You may be eligible if: 

  • Your parent/guardian is full-time, benefits-eligible with at least four consecutive years of current employment in a licensed health care organization, verified by Human Resources.
  • McDaniel is also pleased to offer a special LifeBridge Legacy Scholarship as part of our LifeBridge Health partnership to all employees of the LifeBridge Health system.

Public Servant Legacy Scholarship Celebrating the vital work of public servants

McDaniel celebrates the vital work of public servants. Children of full-time, benefits-eligible government employees at the local, state, tribal, or federal level may receive up to $132,000 ($33,000 annually for residential students; $22,000 for commuters) toward a McDaniel education.

You might be eligible if: 

  • Your parent or guardian is currently employed full time by a local, county, state, federal, or tribal government agency.
  • Parents or guardians must have worked full time in public service for a minimum of the past four consecutive years and be eligible for full-time employment benefits.
