    Students virtually inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society

    The Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society inducted 35 McDaniel students on Sunday, Oct. 18 through a national virtual ceremony. McDaniel students and families participated in the virtual induction ceremony with other chapters throughout the country. Alpha Lambda Delta (First Year Seminar) recognizes students who completed their first year at McDaniel with a 3.7 grade point average (GPA) or higher.

    More than 1,200 students return to the Hill during six-day staggered move-in

    More than 1,200 freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors returned to the Hill over a six-day staggered move-in period. McDaniel also welcomed its largest incoming class in the College’s history with more than 600 new first-year and transfer students. The Return to the Hill Task Force met regularly throughout the summer to develop the College’s Fall 2020 reopening plans based on guidance by state and county health officials to ensure a healthy and safe residential and academic experience.

    McDaniel College unveils student center renovation

    Renamed the Roj Student Center for 1970 alumni Mary Lynn Durham and Bill Roj, who supported the project with a $5 million gift. The $11 million renovation modernizes McDaniel’s student center located in the middle of campus and is the first overall renovation of the structure since it was built in 1978.

    New partnership expands McDaniel’s student health services. McDaniel students can receive routine medical care and telehealth appointments through LifeBridge Health as an expansion of the college’s Wellness Center offerings.

    Five McDaniel College students attended the 2020 League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Emerge Latino Conference held February 25-27, in Washington, D.C. McDaniel is the only college or university in Maryland to have a LULAC chapter on campus.

    Faculty ingenuity fuels McDaniel’s shift to online classes to weather the pandemic

    McDaniel professors and instructional design staff pivot, using innovation and creativity, to transform classes, labs and studios for students to attend classes on a virtual Hill. Ingenuity abounds as students search homes and backyards for organic chemicals, act out scenes in plays on split screens, sample French culture by making crêpes and watch their seedlings grow in the college greenhouse via videos sent by their Sustainable Agriculture professor.

    Women's soccer team took the trip of a lifetime to Bavaria in Germany and on to Switzerland and its majestic Alps to visit picture-postcard villages, tour castles older than the U.S. and compete on soccer fields tucked into hillsides rimmed by snow-capped peaks.

    More than 30 students and professors turned out on an early Saturday morning in late October to help the Green Terror Garden aka The Pollinator Pickle Patch team put their baby to sleep for the winter.
