    Melissa Thomas M.S. '05, coordinator of the Equity and Excellence in Education graduate certificate program and an adjunct professor at McDaniel College, has been selected to present at the Maryland State Education Association (MSEA) Convention on Oct. 16. Thomas, who earned her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction (now Innovations in Teaching and Learning), is also an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) resource teacher in Carroll County Public Schools and a Maryland State Department of Education Master Teacher.

    Accounting Interviewing Day 2020 is a virtual success

    It may not have been the traditional in-person Interviewing Day that Accounting, Economics and Business Administration students have known in the past, but the first half of Interviewing Day 2020 was no less successful with nine accounting firms holding 84 virtual interviews with 31 McDaniel Accounting majors. The second half of Interviewing Day continues in the spring when other majors in the Economics and Business Administration department will have the opportunity to meet with employers for internships and jobs.

    McDaniel College awards first-year and transfer students with legacy scholarships

    McDaniel College has awarded nearly 100 first-year and transfer students with legacy scholarships valued at up to $100,000 over four years. Any student who qualifies for McDaniel's Alumni Legacy Scholarship, Educator’s Legacy Scholarship, or Military Legacy Scholarship is automatically awarded the scholarship. The legacy scholarships provide alternative ways to make McDaniel accessible for a wide variety of families.

    McDaniel students assisted and performed in “Spoon River Anthology”

    More than 25 McDaniel students were part of the “Spoon River Anthology” production. Performances were Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26. “Spoon River Anthology” was directed by Julie Herber, who also served as choreographer, with the music directed by Alison E. Shafer. Theatre Arts major Flannery Bendel-Simso of Westminster, Md., served as the stage manager.

    McDaniel College President Roger N. Casey announces retirement

    McDaniel College President Roger N. Casey has announced his plans to retire at the end of the 2020–2021 academic year in June 2021. One of the longest-serving college presidents in the State of Maryland, President Casey took office as McDaniel College’s ninth president in July 2010 and oversees McDaniel’s campus in Westminster, Md., as well as the college’s European campus in Budapest, Hungary.

    McDaniel offers new majors in American Sign Language and International Business

    McDaniel recently launched two new majors offering expanded opportunities to students interested in American Sign Language (ASL) and International Business. Earlier in the year, an additional eight majors were added, including Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Criminal Justice, Health Sciences, Marketing, and Writing and Publishing.

    Three professors selected for endowed appointments

    McDaniel College has appointed Dana Ferraris, associate professor of Chemistry, Steven Pearson, professor of Art & Art History, and Kevin McIntyre, professor of Economics and Business Administration and coordinator of the master’s degree program in Data Analytics, to endowed positions.
  • Army ROTC has been a tradition at the college since 1919, and the Green Terror Battalion is one of the oldest ROTC programs in the nation.

    Nine McDaniel College students receive Army ROTC Scholarships

    Nine students have earned Army ROTC Scholarships. The scholarships, which are awarded based on scholastic, athletic and leadership attributes, cover full tuition and fees, plus additional funds for books, as well as a monthly living stipend. The students will be commissioned as second lieutenants and will be required to serve on active duty in the Army Reserve or National Guard upon graduating from McDaniel.

    The Daily Record names Jocelyn Collins ’16 to VIP Successful by 40 list

    Jocelyn Collins ’16 has been named to The Daily Record’s 2020 VIP Successful by 40 List. As Maryland and Washington Government Relations Director for the American Cancer Society Action Network, Collins is a lobbyist who is also an advocate. “From youth, I always loved giving back and making the world a better place,” Collins told The Daily Record.

    McDaniel College announces plans for 2021 January Term and Spring Semester

    McDaniel College has released its 2021 January Term and Spring semester plans for undergraduate students. Decisions have been developed by McDaniel’s Return to the Hill Taskforce and will continue to be updated, as needed.
