McDaniel College’s new state-of-the-art facility for the college’s Nursing program has officially been named for The Kahlert Foundation and in honor of Carroll County philanthropists Greg Kahlert, president of The Kahlert Foundation, and his wife, Roberta.

The McDaniel College Kahlert Nursing Education Center, located at LifeBridge Health’s Carroll Hospital, is slated for completion for fall 2026 and will house McDaniel’s Nursing classrooms, labs, and offices.

A plaque unveiling to formally announce the new name occurred on campus at McDaniel College on Tuesday, May 5, in advance of National Nurses Day, which is observed on May 6.

McDaniel’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing, launched in fall 2024, was developed in partnership with Carroll Hospital, part of the LifeBridge Health network, to help expand the nursing workforce in Carroll County and the surrounding region.

The program is approved by both the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) and the Maryland Board of Nursing with Nursing courses slated to begin at the hospital in fall 2026.

More about The Kahlert Foundation

Greg Kahlert and his wife, Roberta, are local philanthropists who have lived in Sykesville, Maryland, for almost 20 years. During this time, they have woven themselves into the fabric of the community, including volunteer work at Carroll County Food Sunday, Carroll Community College, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carroll County. Currently, Greg Kahlert is president of The Kahlert Foundation, which was established by his father, William “Bill” Kahlert, in 1991 with the desire to make a difference in the communities where he lived and worked. Roberta Kahlert is active on the foundation’s board of directors.

Today, The Kahlert Foundation provides millions of dollars in funding to charities in Maryland, Utah, and parts of the Mid-Atlantic. Named the Association of Fundraising Professionals Maryland Chapter 2017 Outstanding Foundation of the Year, The Kahlert Foundation’s current annual grant budget makes it one of the largest private foundations in Maryland and Utah. The impact of the Kahlert Foundation in Maryland is profound, supporting numerous nonprofits that fall within the foundation’s core focus areas of education, healthcare, youth, veterans, and human services, including McDaniel College, which honored him in May 2024 with an honorary Doctor of Public Service, and Carroll Community College, where he serves on the board of trustees.

In October 2024, The Kahlert Foundation awarded a $2.5 million grant to support McDaniel's Nursing program. McDaniel also received a $150,000 grant from the foundation in 2023 for development of the program.
