School Librarianship graduate program receives national recognition

McDaniel College's School Librarianship master's degree program has achieved national recognition through a review using the current ALA/AASL/CAEP School Librarian Preparation Standards (2019). McDaniel's program has been recognized since 2008 by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

“This national recognition demonstrates that McDaniel’s School Librarianship program is at the forefront of preparing future school librarians,” said Mona Kerby, the L. Stanley Bowlsbey Endowed Chair at McDaniel and coordinator of the School Librarianship program, as well as the Writing for Children and Young Adults and Learning Technologies Specialist certificate programs.

The ALA/AASL/CAEP School Librarian Preparation Standards (2019) apply to all master’s programs that prepare candidates to develop and manage library and information services in a PreK-12 setting.

There are five standards: The Learner and Learning, Planning for Instruction, Knowledge and Application of Content, Organization and Access, and Leadership, Advocacy, and Professional Responsibility.

McDaniel's program has been recognized since 2008 by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
