Sophomore named semifinalist for Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship at Regional Theater Festival

Danielle Carter, a sophomore Political Science major, was named a semifinalist for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, Region II. The 2023 Region II Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) was Jan. 17-21, 2023, and included students and faculty representing colleges and universities from eight states and Washington, D.C.

Danielle Carter, a sophomore Political Science major, was one of only 32 semifinalists at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, Region II. 

Sophomore Danielle Carter of Rockville, Maryland, was named a semifinalist at the 2023 Region II Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). The festival was held Jan. 17-21, 2023, at West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Carter, a Political Science major, was nominated to audition for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship among over 150 student-actors for her performances as the character Watson in a production of “Sherlock!” and Maria in “Wintertime,” both performed at McDaniel College.

She was then chosen to perform with a partner at the festival as one of only 32 semifinalists. She and her partner, Tyra Pritchett, a senior Psychology major, performed a scene from “Crimes of the Heart” by Beth Henley.

KCACTF brought together students and faculty representing colleges and universities from eight states and Washington, D.C., for a week of performances, competition and professional development workshops with experts in production, directing, choreography, acting, writing, design, stage management, dramaturgy and dramatic criticism.
