Military Legacy Scholarship

For Veterans, Active Duty Military Personnel and their Children

The Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program has been a part of McDaniel College since 1919 and is one of the oldest programs in the nation. In recognition of the Green Terror Battalion’s 100 years of service to our country, McDaniel College is pleased to introduce the McDaniel Military Legacy Scholarship (MLS) for veterans* and active duty military personnel and their children beginning Fall 2019.

Military veterans, active duty military personnel, and their children who are admitted to McDaniel College as undergraduates are eligible to receive a scholarship valued at up to $25,000 per year ($80,000 over four years for commuter students and $100,000 over 4 years for residential students) to help fund their college education!

*Veterans and active duty military personnel and their children who are eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program of the Post 9-11 GI Bill will find that McDaniel already has a highly competitive program in place that can cover up to the cost of full tuition at McDaniel. Any veteran or child of a veteran who is not eligible for Yellow Ribbon benefits will be eligible for consideration for the Military Legacy Scholarship.

All admissible undergraduate first year and transfer students who are eligible for this scholarship must complete and submit the Military Legacy Scholarship Eligibility form and provide a copy of your parent's/your US Military ID, a DD 214 Form, or verification form from the SCRA website.

First-year students should complete the following steps:

  1. Complete and submit the Military Legacy Eligibility Form. Your application for acceptance to McDaniel College will not be complete or reviewed until we receive your Eligibility Form along with the required documentation.
  2. Submit documentation (copy of U.S. Military ID, a DD-214 form, or verification form from the SCRA website.) to confirm eligibility. There are two ways to submit your documentation:
    • Electonically: When completing the Eligibility Form, you will be given the opportunity to upload the appropriate documentation. This is the preferred method of submission.
    • Direct Submission: Alternatively, you may submit a copy of the required documents directly to McDaniel College Office of Admissions (fax: 410-857-2757, email:

  3. Submit The McDaniel Application or The Common Application for admission.
  4. Send a copy of your official transcript(s).

The Military Legacy Scholarship is among the largest scholarships offered at McDaniel, and as a result, no additional scholarship — merit, music, summer science academy, Carroll County grant, etc. — will be added on top of a Military Legacy Scholarship. This scholarship will replace any other smaller scholarship a student may have received prior to being awarded the Military Legacy Scholarship.

If a high school student recipient of the Military Legacy Scholarship is invited to the campus to compete for the Dorsey Scholars Program or for Scholars on the Hill, then any new Presidential Scholarship or Dorsey Scholarship that may be received will completely replace the Military Legacy Scholarship.

If you wish to pursue need-based assistance, then you should file the FAFSA after October 1 and have your results sent to McDaniel. Additional eligibility for need-based aid (beyopnd $25,000) will be awarded in a McDaniel Financial Aid Award Letter. Once a McDaniel Financial Aid Award Letter has been issued, no revisions will be made to add Military Legacy Scholarships.

If you complete the full admission process and are admitted to McDaniel, and you submit the appropriate criteria for the MIlitary Legacy Scholarship verification, then you will receive the MLS. There is no limit to the number of recipients each fall.

For a student residing on campus at McDaniel, the Military Legacy Scholarship is valued at $25,000 annually for up to four years, a $100,000 value. Commuting students are eligible for an Military Legacy Scholarship valued at $20,000 annually with a four-year value of $80,000.

To retain the scholarship, you must maintain continuous full-time enrollment at McDaniel College for up to eight consecutive semesters or until completion of your bachelor's degree, whichever comes first.
