Social Work major Nicki James '26 was presented with the 2026 Top 100 Women Scholarship by The Daily Record, while Tracy Imm '87 was inducted into the Circle of Excellence. This is the second consecutive year that a McDaniel senior earned the prestigious award, further highlighting McDaniel's commitment to developing leaders who make a meaningful impact in their communities.
Caroline R. Sherman, Ph.D., has been selected as McDaniel College's new provost following a national search and will join McDaniel effective July 1. Sherman, who has extensive experience in academic administration, most recently served as a member of the senior leadership team as vice provost for academic administration and dean of graduate studies at The Catholic University of America.
Leonard Arvi, Ph.D., who most recently served as department chairperson of Finance for the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business at Salisbury University, has been selected as the inaugural dean of McDaniel’s new School of Business and Technology following a national search. He assumes the role at McDaniel for the fall 2026 semester, effective Aug. 1.
McDaniel College celebrates its 156th Commencement for the Class of 2026 on Saturday, May 23. The graduate ceremony begins at 10 a.m., followed by the undergraduate ceremony at 2 p.m. Both ceremonies take place in the college’s Gill Center. A plaque unveiling in advance of National Nurses Day took place on campus at McDaniel to officially announce the McDaniel College Kahlert Nursing Education Center. McDaniel’s new state-of-the-art facility for the college’s Nursing program at LifeBridge Health's Carroll Hospital is slated for completion for fall 2026.
McDaniel College announces new majors in Astrophysics, Astronomy, and Engineering Mechanics to begin fall 2027. Incoming fall 2026 students will have the opportunity to be able to declare one of these new programs as their major in their sophomore year.
McDaniel's Academic Symposium on Monday, May 4, highlights the original research, scholarship, and creative achievements of McDaniel students, faculty, and staff, with this year’s theme, “Pass on What You Have Learned.”
McDaniel College has named Bryan Gately '83 to its Board of Trustees. Gately, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in Communication, is currently executive director and banker with J.P. Morgan Private Bank in Baltimore.
The $1.4 million renovation of Harvey Stone Park and Pavilion, supported by a grant from the State of Maryland and private donations, including a leadership gift from McDaniel Trustee Carroll L. "Splinter" Yingling '68 and his wife, Susan Morales Yingling '70, M.S. '00, has transformed the facility into an outdoor living-learning laboratory and will host student gatherings and campus events.
