Five high school seniors surprised with full four-year scholarships as McDaniel's newest Dorsey Scholars

McDaniel College’s Admissions Office, along with the Green Terror, surprised five high school seniors from Anne Arundel and Carroll counties in Maryland and Lititz, Pennsylvania, with full four-year scholarships as the college’s newest Dorsey Scholars for the Class of 2030. The Dorsey Scholars Program is the highest academic honor at McDaniel.

Emily Stauffer Dorsey 2026 Surprise

Emily Stauffer, a senior at Warwick High School in Lititz, Pennsylvania, is among five students selected by McDaniel College as Dorsey Scholars for the Class of 2030. 

Representatives from McDaniel College’s Admissions Office, along with the Green Terror, surprised five high school seniors from Anne Arundel and Carroll counties in Maryland and Lititz, Pennsylvania, by naming them the college’s newest Dorsey Scholars for the Class of 2030.

The Dorsey Scholars Program is the highest academic honor at McDaniel. Students are selected from the college's applicant pool to receive full tuition, room, and board for all four years at the college.

Dorsey Scholars are academic leaders and role models on campus. They also have distinctive opportunities, including serving as ambassadors of the college.

The Dorsey Scholars Program is supported by a $6.7 million estate gift from 1891 alumnus Philip Henry Dorsey, the largest bequest for scholarships in McDaniel’s history.

Haley Ferrell Dorsey 2026

Haley Ferrell Anne Arundel County, Maryland

Haley Ferrell is a senior at Old Mill High School in Millersville, Maryland. She has excelled academically in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at her school and is president of the National Honor Society, in the Student Government Association, a cheerleader, and serves on a teen mental health advisory board. She has also written a children’s book to help children deal with their emotions. She plans to study Elementary Education

Maribel Garcia Dorsey 2026

Maribel Garcia Anne Arundel County, Maryland

Maribel Garcia, a senior at Old Mill High School in Millersville, Maryland, is a member of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. She is a published author, having written a series of horror books that are available at Barnes and Noble. Garcia is founder of the school’s literature club and president of several honor societies, as well as active in theatre. Additionally, she is a lead representative manager and tutor for the English Learning Development Program and works as a lifeguard.

Ella Yi Dorsey 2026

Ella Yi Anne Arundel County, Maryland

Ella Yi, a senior at Crofton High School in Gambrills, Maryland, has a passion for writing and storytelling, serving as editor of Crofton’s literary magazine. She is involved in several honor societies and plays the piano. Outside of school, she works at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. She also helped to organize a community service project to support children with cancer at Johns Hopkins.

Ryan Baity Dorsey 2026

Ryan Baity Carroll County, Maryland

Ryan Baity is a senior at South Carroll High School in Sykesville, Maryland. He has not only excelled academically but is known as a dedicated and diligent student. Baity, who aspires to become an engineer, has held leadership positions in the community and has an internship with the National Security Agency. He is also a participant of the Carroll County Scholars program at McDaniel, which provides free guidance and college search support to Carroll County students.

Emily Stauffer Lititz, Pennsylvania

Emily Stauffer is a senior at Warwick High School in Lititz, Pennsylvania, where she has not only excelled academically, but also through extracurriculars and community involvement. She is a member of the Warwick High School golf team and is involved in student council, with various honor societies, and as part of the library committee. She has participated in Interact, a community service club, and supported the fight against pediatric cancer as a member of UNITE. She also competes in Irish dance. Stauffer plans to study Biochemistry and attend medical school to become a gastroenterologist.
