    Bates Prize and Mary Ward Lewis Prize awarded at Senior Investiture and Honors Convocation

    Stephani Xiomara Portillo Ordoñez, a Self-Designed French Studies major and Political Science major specializing in International Studies, received The Mary Ward Lewis Prize, while Psychology major Dylan Elroy Hughes was awarded The Bates Prize. Both represent outstanding members of the graduating class.

    Thirteen ROTC cadets commissioned as Army officers

    Thirteen McDaniel graduating students, who served as members of the Green Terror Battalion, received commissions as Army officers on May 19. The keynote speaker for the ceremony was retired Maj. Gen. Michael O’Guinn, who served as the deputy chief of the Army Reserve in Washington, D.C., and currently teaches Business courses at Mount Saint Mary’s University.

    McDaniel celebrates 153rd Commencement on Saturday, May 20

    McDaniel College celebrates its 153rd Commencement for the Class of 2023 on Saturday, May 20. The graduate ceremony begins at 10 a.m., followed by the undergraduate ceremony at 2 p.m. Both ceremonies take place in the college’s Gill Center. A live stream of both ceremonies will also be available online at www.mcdaniel.edu/commencement.

    Hollywood Producer Jim Wilberger '72 receives highest alumni honor

    Jim Wilberger, who is currently executive producer of Hallmark Crown Media and has more than 101 producing credits for movies, mini-series, and television movies, received the Trustee Alumni Award, the highest alumni honor given at McDaniel. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts in 1972 and regularly hosts McDaniel students in Los Angeles for film internships, assists the McDaniel Cinema Department with mentoring programs for current students, speaks on campus, and donates instructional materials to the department.

    Richard Turner, executive director of the Community Media Center of Carroll County, received the 2023 Delta of Maryland Lifelong Learner Award from the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society at McDaniel College during the college's daylong Academic Symposium on Monday, May 1.

    McDaniel's Academic Symposium includes a robust program of innovative and inspiring presentations. Throughout the day, McDaniel students, faculty, and staff showcase their original research, scholarship, and creative achievements. Plus, two special events take place including a Conversation with Carroll County Leaders and a Keynote Lunch with Wall Street Journal reporter and author Melissa Korn (advance registration is required).

    Second Senior Capstone Art exhibition highlights works by graduating seniors

    "Idveritas: Discovery of the Self" features a range of media, from traditional two- and three-dimensional approaches, to digital and new media, from graduating seniors at McDaniel. The exhibition runs Tuesday, April 25-Friday, May 12 in Esther Prangley Rice Gallery, Peterson Hall. An opening reception takes place Thursday, April 27, 5:30-7:30 p.m., with a gallery talk at 6 p.m.
