    New tradition celebrates the McDaniel community while ushering in the holiday season

    “Out of Darkness: A Celebration of Light” on Wednesday, Nov. 29, combined beloved college traditions with new experiences in honor of the college’s motto “E Tenebris in Lucem Voco” or “I call you out of darkness into light.” The evening was filled with light, education, food, and the sharing of cultural traditions.

    McDaniel College students participated in the Model European Union 2023 Simulation in Washington, D.C., Nov. 9-11. A delegation of seven students represented Sweden and were accompanied by Christianna N. Leahy, chair of the Political Science and International Studies department at McDaniel.

    Former parent visitor Walter Olson elected to McDaniel College Board of Trustees

    Walter Olson has been elected to the McDaniel College Board of Trustees. A former parent visitor to the board, Olson is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute’s Robert A. Levy Center for Constitutional Studies. His son, Tim, graduated from McDaniel in May 2023 with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies.

    Psychology and Kinesiology senior presents research at Applied Sport Psychology Conference

    Katie Klein, a senior Psychology and Kinesiology major, recently presented research findings at the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) Conference in Orlando, Florida. Klein was joined at the conference by two recent 2023 alums, Madalyn Bigley and Evan Darr, along with Assistant Professor of Kinesiology Jessica Ford. Jessica Wolverton, Student-athlete Wellbeing Coordinator, also had research included in the conference.

    McDaniel research: Invasive spotted lanternflies may be on these trees in your backyard

    In a 2023 study published in Florida Entomologist, McDaniel College researchers identify three new tree species not previously recorded as hosts for invasive spotted lanternfly nymphs. Back in 2019, two students and Associate Professor Holly Martinson surveyed the insect's nymphs and egg masses in Pennsylvania, as well as plants at the McDaniel campus and McDaniel Environmental Center, with support from the Student-Faculty Collaborative Summer Research Program.

    McDaniel College names new Director of Athletics

    Jeremy Shepherd has been promoted as the college's new athletics director, McDaniel Provost Flavius R.W. Lilly has announced. Shepherd joined McDaniel College in August 2022 as assistant athletics director after spending seven years as the senior associate athletics director at Wilson College.

    Faculty and staff celebrate milestone years of service during Seniority Recognition and Arch Awards Ceremony

    The McDaniel College community gathered Nov. 14 for the college’s annual Thanksgiving luncheon and to honor 57 faculty and staff who celebrated a combined 925 years of service to the college. Additionally, the three winners of the 2023 Arch Award for Exemplary Staff Service were announced.

    McDaniel College introduces new Carroll County Scholars

    All 8th and 10th grade students in Carroll County are invited to enroll to participate in receiving college search support and a $100,000 scholarship to McDaniel College through Carroll County Scholars, a new program providing assistance to Carroll County students as they navigate the college search process.
