    Bates Prize and Mary Ward Lewis Prize awarded at Senior Investiture and Honors Convocation

    Jessia Marie Avila, a Political Science and Marketing major, received The Mary Ward Lewis Prize as the outstanding female member of the graduating class, while Andrew Gabriel Witten, Business Administration major, was awarded The Bates Prize for the outstanding male graduating senior.

    McDaniel celebrates 152nd Commencement on Saturday, May 21

    McDaniel College celebrates its 152nd Commencement for the Class of 2022 on Saturday, May 21. The graduate ceremony begins at 10 a.m., followed by the undergraduate ceremony at 2 p.m. Both ceremonies take place in the college’s Gill Center with masks required for all attendees as a health and safety precaution. A live stream of both ceremonies will also be available online at www.mcdaniel.edu/commencement.

    Lecturer Linda Kephart and her Adapted Physical Education students designed activities for the 31st Tournament of Champions, while students in an independent study formed a hands-on planning committee. With over 100 student-athlete volunteers partnered with local children to take on each activity, the event was a festive success.

    Psychology major earns Griswold-Zepp Award for mental health awareness and support project

    Sophomore Sydney Hinnant was awarded a Griswold-Zepp award from the college for a mental health awareness and support project. The Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO) at McDaniel oversees the Griswold-Zepp Award, which can total up to $3,000 for proposed volunteer experiences of McDaniel students, addressing the needs of local, regional, national, or worldwide communities.

    “explorations of 14 emerging artists” features a range of media, from traditional two- and three-dimensional approaches, to digital and new media from graduating Art students at McDaniel. The exhibition runs Thursday, April 28-Friday, May 13, in Rice Gallery, Peterson Hall.

    Art–Communication major earns $1,000 grant to build Little Free Library in Westminster

    Through her passion for graphic design and community enrichment, junior Art–Communication major Gia Koutsokostas was awarded a $1,000 grant to fund a Little Free Library at the Charles Street Tot Lot in Westminster, Maryland. It all began in Assistant Professor of Art and Art History Chloe Irla’s Graphic Design II course.

    HiQ Basketball wins $5K top prize at McDaniel's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge

    UPDATE: HiQ Basketball presented by senior Joshua Arruda, Accounting, Economics, and Business Administration triple major from Morrisville, Pa., earned the $5,000 top prize as the first place winner of McDaniel’s sixth annual Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge and got $1,000 as the People’s Choice winner.

    McDaniel College Theatre Arts presents a production directed by senior theatre arts lecturer Gené Fouché and featuring students enrolled in her Devised Theatre course. Performances are Wednesday, April 20-Saturday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall.
