    McDaniel College appoints Adam Hertz as athletics director

    Adam Hertz, who has served as McDaniel College’s Interim Director of Athletics since Mar. 10, has been appointed as Director of Athletics, current McDaniel Provost and incoming 10th President Julia Jasken has announced. Hertz came to McDaniel after nearly two decades at fellow Centennial Conference member Swarthmore. He most recently managed operations and logistics for 122 Consulting Group in Philadelphia, a national consulting group based in Philadelphia that specializes in Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (JDEI) work.

    McDaniel College Board of Trustees presents Honorary Degree to MICUA President Emerita Tina Bjarekull

    Tina Bjarekull, president emerita of the Maryland Independent College and University Association (MICUA), was conferred an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree by McDaniel College’s Board of Trustees. The presentation took place May 15 during the board’s annual spring meeting.

    Cinema Showcase features eight original capstone films by McDaniel seniors

    Eight senior Cinema majors premiered more than their original films during the McDaniel Cinema Showcase on May 6. Their capstone creations showcased a piece of themselves on the big screen in Decker Auditorium, Lewis Hall of Science. Each film was written, directed, produced, and edited by a Cinema major as a portfolio of their work.

    McDaniel faculty were recognized throughout the last week of classes for the 2020-2021 academic year by Provost Julia Jasken during a Faculty Appreciation Week, coinciding with National Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3-7).

    New Vice President for Administration and Finance to join McDaniel

    McDaniel College has named Eric Simon as the college’s new vice president for Administration and Finance following a national search. Simon comes to McDaniel after serving as assistant vice chancellor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. He assumes the role at McDaniel effective June 1, 2021.

    McDaniel College announces new Provost

    Rosa Rivera-Hainaj, who has most recently served as associate vice president of academic affairs at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, has been selected as McDaniel College’s new provost following a national search. She plans to join McDaniel in July 2021.

    Life Tacos wins $5K top prize at annual Entrepreneurship Competition

    UPDATE: Life Tacos presented by juniors Julianna Dotterweich, an Accounting, Economics, and Business Administration major from Timonium, Md., and Jessie Titus, an Environmental Studies major from Frederick, Md., earned the $5,000 top prize as the first place winner of the fifth annual McDaniel College Entrepreneurship Competition, formerly the Innovation Challenge Finals. Life Tacos aims at giving people healthier food options that are more affordable and accessible.

    Senior Marlowe Embry honored with Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award

    Senior Kinesiology major Marlowe Embry, a member of the McDaniel volleyball team, has been honored by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education as part of its annual Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholars Award.
