Tracy Imm, an adjunct lecturer in the Communication and Cinema and Economics and Business Administration departments, has received the college’s Nora Roberts Faculty Award. A 1987 alum of the college, Imm is also an experienced communications and marketing professional based in the Baltimore area. She has been teaching at McDaniel since 2013.

The Nora Roberts Faculty Award provides McDaniel faculty members with financial support to establish or build upon a social justice, service-learning, or community project. It was first awarded in 2015 and is inspired by acclaimed author and friend of the college Nora Roberts, and the Nora Roberts Foundation, which works to promote literacy and humanitarian efforts.

Imm, who teaches a Social Impact Storytelling course as an elective through the Communication and Cinema Department, plans to utilize the $1,000 award to have students in the course further expand on promotion of the college’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) efforts, as outlined in McDaniel’s strategic plan, “Reaching New Heights: McDaniel College Strategic Plan 2022-2027.”

The course, which was first offered in spring 2023 and will be offered again in spring 2024, is designed to teach students how to leverage storytelling as a strategic tool to engage with key stakeholders. Students have the opportunity to build an overarching communications plan utilizing both digital and traditional communication tactics to support a social impact cause.

McDaniel College Provost Flavius Lilly wrote, “This project aims to strengthen connections between our students, the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (ODEI), and our broader community. Tracy’s project, centered on vividly communicating DEIJ initiatives, aims to inspire engagement and foster greater awareness.”

In addition to receiving a bachelor’s degree in Communication from McDaniel, Imm holds a master’s degree in Business and Technology Management from Stevenson University and M.B.A. in Marketing and Management from the University of Baltimore. She has held senior leadership positions with global brands in aerospace and defense, energy, healthcare, insurance, and financial services, and is a management consultant and leadership coach.
