Recent alumni trustees join McDaniel College Board of Trustees

Lucero Espinal '20 of Westminster, Maryland, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a minor in Education with a PreK-12 specialization, and Tim McLister '13 of Leesburg, Virginia, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Economics, have been appointed as recent alumni trustees on the McDaniel College Board of Trustees. They are the first alumni to hold the position.

Lucero Espinal '20 and Tim McLister '13 have been appointed as alumni trustees on the college’s board of trustees. 

Two alums have been selected as recent alumni trustees on the McDaniel College Board of Trustees. They are the first alumni to hold the position.

Current trustees elect recent alums who graduated from McDaniel within the past 15 years to serve as representatives on the board. The recent alumni trustees serve one three-year term. 

Lucero Espinal '20 was a first-generation college student who graduated from McDaniel in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a minor in Education with a PreK-12 specialization. As a student, she was actively involved as a member of the Student Honor and Conduct Board, Student Alumni Council, and Green Life, the college’s environmental club. She also helped with organizing educational events to promote student belonging on campus. Espinal worked as an Admissions ambassador, a student ambassador for the Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO), and a technician for McDaniel’s IT Help Desk. 

Following her time at McDaniel, Espinal returned to Howard County Public Schools, where she attended high school, to teach Spanish and career development at multiple middle and high schools. In 2023, she transitioned into higher education, working as a doctoral academic advisor at Aspen University. She joined Towson University in 2024 as an academic advisor and provides support to first-year undergraduate students. 

Espinal remains connected to McDaniel through her involvement with the McDaniel Alumni Council and as an alumni volunteer with the college’s CEO, assisting with resume reviews, mock interviews, and career-related panel discussions.

She also earned a graduate certificate in Equity and Excellence in Education from McDaniel in 2022 and a master’s degree in Learning Experience Design and Educational Technology from Western Governors University in 2025. She currently resides in Westminster, Maryland, with her partner, Jonathan Lingg '20. 

Tim McLister '13 of Leesburg, Virginia, received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Economics from McDaniel in 2013 and was captain of the college’s Green Terror football team. 

Currently, he is a government contracts attorney with Greenberg Traurig, LLP, in Washington, D.C. In this role, he advises both domestic and international businesses on government contracts and procurement matters. His work spans various industries with an emphasis on defense, intelligence, cybersecurity, and maritime.

Prior to entering private practice, McLister was an active-duty captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps where he represented the Army in its litigation and procurement strategy. He also served as senior trial counsel, overseeing a team of prosecutors for XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the country’s largest military installation, and deployed to Baghdad, Iraq and Kuwait in support of Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve. 

In addition to his degree from McDaniel, he holds a Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law and a Master of Business Administration from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. McLister maintains an active top secret/sensitive compartmented information (TS/SCI) clearance.
