Faculty and staff celebrated at Seniority Recognition and Arch Awards Ceremony

The McDaniel College community gathered on Tuesday, Nov. 18, for the college’s annual Thanksgiving luncheon and to honor 64 faculty and staff who celebrated a combined 1,050 years of service to the college. Additionally, the winners of the 2025 Arch Award for Exemplary Staff Service were announced.

Seniority Recognition 2025 35 years

Lecturer and Coordinator Margaret Pfaff M.S. ’93 and General Maintenance Mechanic Douglas Patterson were recognized by President Julia Jasken for celebrating 35 years of service to the college.

The McDaniel College community gathered on Tuesday, Nov. 18, for the college’s annual Thanksgiving luncheon along with the Seniority Recognition and Arch Awards Ceremony. 

The college honored 64 faculty and staff celebrating 10 years or more of service. These faculty and staff represented a combined 1,050 years of service to McDaniel.

Additionally, the recipients of the 2025 Arch Award for Exemplary Staff Service, which recognizes staff members for outstanding service to the college, were announced at the ceremony.

Many well-deserved congratulations to:

  • Cathy Boyd, assistant bursar, who started at McDaniel in 2018;
  • Wayne Little, general maintenance mechanic, who has been with the college since 2002;
  • Robin Townsend ’75, M.S. ’98, coordinator of teacher professional development, who started teaching at the college in 2010 and has worked full-time in the Education department since 2014; and
  • Katrina Wiens, Chemistry lab manager, who joined the college in 2024.

Seniority Recognition

Among those celebrating 35 years are Douglas Patterson, general maintenance mechanic - lead tradesman, Physical Plant; and Margaret Pfaff M.S. ’93, lecturer and coordinator, Innovations in Teaching and Learning.

Recognized for 30 years is Mary Bendel-Simso, dean of the faculty and professor, English; Rebecca Carpenter, professor, English; Kyle Engler, senior lecturer, Music; and Jonathan Slade ’88, professor, Communication and Cinema.

The 25-year celebrants are Jeffrey Marx, professor, Physics; Margaret McDevitt, professor, Psychology; Kevin McIntyre, professor, Economics and Business Administration; Edmund O'Meally, senior online graduate adjunct lecturer II, Graduate and Professional Studies; Mark Rust, associate professor of Education emeritus and senior adjunct lecturer II, American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Education; Kimberly Seeley, accountant, Financial Services; and Jakub Zejmis, senior lecturer, History and Art History.
