McDaniel College has named three new members to its board of trustees. Keith Lawson '79 is the deputy general counsel for tax law at the Investment Company Institute (ICI), Dr. Millard Mazer '83 is a periodontist, and Deborah Seidel '84 is a retired vice president of T. Rowe Price.
President Jasken shared a response to the Supreme Court decision striking down racial and ethnic preferences in college admissions with the McDaniel community.
In the Student-Faculty Collaborative Summer Research Program, Art students Zoe Shelby, Sarah Mendez, Lacy Newhouse, and Mandy Smith are painting en plein air with Professor of Art Steven Pearson to develop oil painting techniques and experience an art practice with a long tradition. Their work will appear this November in a campus art exhibition alongside visiting artists.
Eight graduates who majored in Elementary Education or minored in PreK-12 or Secondary Education were recognized as rising stars in education. Kate Cramer, Emma Lindell, Brittany Mitchell, Jessica Raver, Carlena Sheeto, Heather Shockley, and Jada Stump were named Teachers of Promise by the Maryland State Department of Education, while Carly Ludwig was selected as a 2023 Distinguished Teacher Candidate by the Maryland Association of Teacher Educators (MATE).
Yelli Coulibaly ’20, who majored in Political Science with a specialization in International Studies and minored in French, was awarded a Boren Fellowship to travel to Senegal, where she will intern with the National Democratic Institute and study the Wolof language for a six-month term.
“Living” may not be the first word that comes to mind when we think of archives, but for Gwen Coddington, archivist and special collections librarian for McDaniel's Hoover Library, the shelves of objects and documents represent the many people, places, and lives on the Hill since 1867.
McDaniel College announces its Spring 2023 dean's list, recognizing full-time undergraduate students for outstanding academic achievement. Highest honors are earned for a semester grade point average of 3.90 or higher, high honors for a grade point average of 3.70-3.89, and honors for a 3.50-3.69 grade point average.
Political Science major Gabrielle Gladden knew she wanted to go abroad for graduate school, but it wasn’t until a Jan Term to Ireland and Northern Ireland that she found the right place in Queen’s University Belfast, the oldest school in Northern Ireland and the premier institution in the country.
In honor of Military Appreciation Month, McDaniel has been recognized among the nation’s top schools doing the most for military veterans and their families for the 14th consecutive year. McDaniel is also among the schools that earned the Military Friendly® Silver Award for scoring within 30% of the top 10 schools.
